04Dust sweeping

Every Spring Festival, every household must clean the furniture, remove the bedding, carry out a cleaning, clean welcome to the new year. It originated from a religious ceremony of ancient people to drive away diseases and epidemics. From the 24th of December to the end of the year, it is the time of "sweeping the new year". The custom of "sweeping the new year" reflects the working people's clean and hygienic tradition.

05Gaste New Year's red (Spring Festival couplets)

On the 28th, 29th or 30th of the year, every household pastes "Nian Hong", which is also called Spring Festival couplets. According to Yu Zhu Bao Dian, Yan Jing Sui Shi Ji and other works, the original form of Spring Festival couplets is what people call "Taofu".

Spring couplets are also called door couplets, spring couplets, couplets, couplets, Taofu and so on. They describe the background of the times and express good wishes in neat, dual, concise and exquisite words. They are a unique literary form in China.

Every Spring Festival, whether in urban or rural areas, every household should select a red couplet and paste it on the door to increase the festive atmosphere. It is said that this custom began to prevail in the Ming Dynasty. By the Qing Dynasty, the ideological and artistic quality of Spring Festival couplets had been greatly improved.

06Setting off firecrackers

It is said that in ancient times, there was a ferocious monster called Nian, which was in the deep sea all the year round. But at the turn of the new year and the old year, it came out to trample on the crops, hurt people and animals, and made the people cry bitterly. Once it went to the village to do evil again, and was scared away by the red clothes hanging at the door of a family. At another place, he was scared by the light.

As a result, people have mastered the weakness of Nian, which is afraid of sound, red and fire. At the end of each year, people stick red couplets, set off firecrackers, hang red lights at the door of their homes, burn firewood in the yard, gather the fire, chop vegetables and meat with a kitchen knife, and make a sound. So we all have to set off firecrackers during the new year.

Setting off firecrackers to celebrate the Spring Festival has a history of more than 2000 years in China. The ancients burned the sound of firecrackers, which was called "firecrackers". The original intention of firecrackers was to frighten and expel evil spirits.
