Peach Blossom and My FirstExperience
By Jonas Asamoah
I can no longer eat sushi and smile with friends and colleagues around such a time like this which should have been dedicated to the admiration of nature. This is a time where the lips of most indigenes and foreign nationals would have recited one sentence, “Peach Blossom is here again, Peach Blossom is here again!”The flowers can visibly be seen sprouting in speed and brightness with their petals opening up as if they need a warm embrace yet, covid-19 does not share the same idea since it hates to see the gathering of people for particular purposes.
Enjoy Peach Blossom
Flash back to two years ago, I could remember the beautiful scenery occupied with tents filled with people from different backgrounds exhibiting their cultures, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe aside the once from colleges. The exhibition of patriotism from most foreigners was a sight incomparable to none. One could not visit a tent without having the national flag drawn on the cheeks. Such a time like this, where I could have put on my fine "kente" (a Ghanaian cloth) cloth embroiled with my beautiful red, gold and green national flag colors. What a pity! The effect of this epidemic is really terrible. Had the virus been a human being, I would have given it some few Tai chi kicks in the tummy for snatching away my happiness.
Far away from culture, I can tell you another interesting thing about the peach blossom festival. Forget about entertainment on your television, video gadget or social media handles, since the real entertainment can be found at this festival. The performance of the Asian and Africans on stage was a life time memory. The to and fro swinging movement of their bodies just like a pendulum made me open my mouth wide just as I used to see in their Bollywood movies. The Chinese display has not been deleted out of my memory either. The combination of their dresses with regards to color preferences as well as the stage performances created a sight beautiful enough to heal one's ailment, wonderful poems were also recited Talk about talent and it was inclusive, another Michael Jackson's replica cladded in white and black exhibiting all the dance moves from robot dance to moon walk was a great sight at the 2019 event. I doubt if I would ever forget such memories.
Football events are known to bring people together but the peach blossom festival does it better. The global solidarity that has been exhibited at this festival years upon years is unprecedented. This is where various nationalities come together to accept the fact that human beings are one big fraternity and we are all one people. I clearly remember how we took pictures together with the flowers regardless of race and religion. We ate dishes from different tents not forgetting the chanting of musical lyrics together which is referred to as "Jama" in my home dialect. It was indeed amazing.
To bring down the curtain, I must admit that the peach blossom festival is a platform for exhibiting and learning one's culture, coming together and appreciating the gift of nature like flowers and knowing what humanity really means. Its quiet unfortunate this pandemic has brought life to a standstill but all in all, I still can't wait for this festival to be resumed sooner than later.
